Puerto Morelos, with its unique charm and unparalleled landscapes, witnessed a historic moment in the world of alternative rock. In February 2017, the iconic Irish band The Cranberries, led by the unforgettable Dolores O'Riordan, visited Quintana Roo to perform their last concert in Mexico, held at the Moon Palace Hotel.

Before their performance in Cancun, the band took the time to tour Puerto Morelos and do a photo shoot which, at the time, seemed to be just part of their preparation for a new album. However, Dolores' sudden death on January 15, 2018 left an irreparable void in the music world and in the hearts of her fans.

One year later, on January 15, 2019, the band released their final album, In The End, as a final tribute to Dolores and her legacy. Images taken in Puerto Morelos remained on their social media, marking this picturesque corner of the Mexican Caribbean as the setting for The Cranberries' final photo shoot.

Fishermen's village

La Parroquia San José Obrero es uno de los edificios más antiguos de la ciudad, y como bien dice su nombre está dedicada a este santo.

La parroquia, amplia y limpia luce renovada y abierta para feligreses, vecinos y turistas que se acercan curiosos para conocer el templo. La iglesia ha sido testigo del acontecer diario del puerto desde el siglo pasado cuando inició la actividad marítima, durante su desarrollo, su fin, y ahora, cuya vocación turística atrae a cientos de personas cada temporada.

A una cuadra con vista a la parroquia se encuentra el viejo muelle cuyos orígenes se remontan a 1898 con la fundación de la Compañía Colonizadora de la Costa Oriente de Yucatán que comercializaba productos extraídos de la selva como palo de tinte, chicle, vainilla, tabaco, cedro y corcho. Originalmente constituyó una “brecha al mar ” desde la Hacienda Santa María, hoy Leona Vicario, hasta Puerto Morelos, antiguamente Puerto Corcho, y en donde se asentaron un puñado de familias en chozas construidas con materiales de la región. Este puerto llegó a ser el más importante de Quintana Roo. En la actualidad, aunque no recibe embarcaciones cargueras, constituye un sitio de atracción para los cientos de turistas que llegan a este sitio para disfrutar del Parque Nacional Arrecifes de Puerto Morelos así como para los pescadores que atracan sus lanchas en sus alrededores.

Como la vida en este destino es muy tranquila, no existen antros ni clubes nocturnos, sin embargo podrás disfrutar de una velada tropical en algunos restaurantes y bares a la orilla del mar en un ambiente que goza de diferentes ritmos bailables, sobre todo los fines de semana.

Desde bandas en vivo de Rock, bailadores de Flamenco, grupo de Tango, Jazz, Reggae, Cumbia, música étnica, hasta DJs internacionales, para que te diviertas mientras pruebas un excelente cóctel o una cerveza bien fría sintiendo la brisa del mar.

Los jueves, la fiesta se pone buena en las “noches guapachosas”, día en que los portomorelenses salen a divertirse, haciendo un recorrido por los bares del centro, donde los anfitriones no dejan a nadie sentado.
